To Increase Your Will Power

What does it mean to regulate your impulses? There are urges and desires within everyone, during every hour of the day and some of us are better at regulating these urges than others. There are two ends of control when talking about regulation - like two ends of a spectrum.  Too much control can be bad and too little control can also be bad. The challenge is to strike the right balance depending on the situation, and this requires willful and mindful strength. Being willful requires a certain level of willpower, a strength of mind to pull out your mental reserve to resist doing what your base urges want you to do. Over time if you can consistently master these urges, then you have gained discipline. Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. It may not be difficult to store up in the mind a vast quantity of facts within a comparatively short time, but the ability to form judgement requires the severe discipline of hard work and the tempering heat of experience and maturity. - Calvin Cool

Understanding the WHY of your life

Most of us want to be successful in life because that is what matters in western society. People look at someone and yardsticks are mentally brought out to mentally measure how high in the social ladder they have climbed. The higher on the ladder, the more we admire them for their achievements. Those of us who fail to get off the bottom rung are left looking up. Unhappy with our progress and discouraged from even trying because they believe that it is a race. Life is not a race, and we all meet the same end - even at the top. The question is do you want to see the view that those at the top have seen before you go? If the answer is 'yes' then you still have time to catch that view. Health, wealth and social status. Things that people often want in life always boil down to a few things. Health, wealth and social status. Health and wealth often go hand in hand. You need a certain level of wealth to stay healthy and likewise you need a certain level of health to achieve weal

3 Step Plan for Compound Success

1.   Every morning you must wake up with an  abundance mindset.  This act will change how the world responds to you. Read something inspirational to set you on a positive mindset. The world today is full of negativity if you pay attention to the media. Is life really as dark and evil as it seems? No. Negativity sells and the media is just a bloodbath of sensationalism, all screaming for your attention. Focus on the great things in the world and they will inspire you to be great as well.  Determine what are the most important goals, and if what you're doing today will lead you towards that goal. 2.   Spend 1hr completely undistracted on a project. Once done, do a review of what your goals are. Look at what your 5 year, 1 year, 3 month and 1 month goals are. Determine what are the most important goals, and if what you're doing today will lead you towards that goal. Consistency will build into momentum , and form a strong habit built for success. Inconsistency will spell f

Forever Learning

Mortimer Adler , one of the cornerstones of modern literature and a driving force behind "Encylopedia Britannica" believes that one should never stop learning. That even in old age we can still be taught new things. He teaches valuable lessons on how to think and learn, and his insights are as valuable now as they were in the past. I have great respect for this man, and look forward to reading more of his work in the future. I will also often refer to his teachings in later blog posts.

Ottawa Race Weekend

What an atmosphere today in Ottawa. Seeing runners young and old taking part in something that brings together community and inspires people to push their limits. People run for many reasons, no matter what the reason, it's something that allows people to prove to themselves what they can achieve. You don't just decide to run a marathon one day and expect to be able to do it. The time and training it takes to prepare your body takes real dedication. When the finishers cross that finish line, it's as if all their hard work was for that moment - and for that moment it feels like they've achieved everything they worked for, and that is true happiness. Savoring the journey and the finish. One day I'd like to give the race weekend a shot myself.
